![]() The idea here is to keep the board clean, then play things like Crucible of Worlds and Life from the Loam to keep you from losing lands. ![]() So yeah, in addition to being a good combo shell, Gitrog also makes for a good control shell if that's something you don't mind building toward: play Languish, Damnation, Krosan Grip, Toxic Deluge, graveyard recursion, hand disruption, some spot removals, and just slap Ugin and Ulamog in as some top-of-curve win conditions, with Titania as a good back-up plan. If you're just trying to play a Timmy big-creatures deck, there are more effective "fun commanders" in BG (Meren, Skullbriar, Jarad) and more effective "fun commanders" with lands themes (Titania, Omnath Locus of Rage) that don't involve your own commander putting your land count on a clock. You can't really play a fair game when your own commander is literally sacking your own lands even if it is drawing you cards in exchange- you need something that breaks this downside of losing lands so that it's no longer a major downside. Gitrog Monster isn't a good commander for a "fair" deck in multiplayer EDH because his "sac a land each turn" kind of forces you to build a deck that can either play a fast game (dredge combo shell) so the land sacking doesn't matter or, through lots and lots of land recursion to keep you from burning out, can play the value game (control shell). I am trying to build a fun version of the deck (i.e. Not really, you can just draw into a dredge com. Struggles to actually do something with those resources.
